Urinary Tract (kidney, ureter, bladder, urethra) infections happen mostly in women related to a shorter urethra comparing to men. The symptoms of a urinary tract infection (UTI) are frequency, urgency, and burning and painful urination (urethritis). Some even experience pressure or pain in the lower abdomen (cystitis), backache (nephritis), fever, chills and nausea, which are signs of more severe illness (pyelonephritis). UTI' s can be a sign of decreased immunity, diabetes, pregnancy, sexual maturity, or kidney stones. |

Kidney stones (renal calculi, nephrolithiasis, urolithiasis) are concentrated solid crystal aggregations of the dissolved minerals in the urinary tract system. When chemicals and metabolites in this filtration system precipitate they form a kidney stone. They cause severe flank pain, abdominal distension, decreased urine output, painful urination and blood in urine (hematuria). |
The most common types are calcium oxalate stones, struvite (magnesium, ammonium, phosphate), uric acid, and calcium phosphate. |
